Awards
During my 3 1/2 years of experience in the newsroom, I have won multiple awards for my writing, design work, leadership and more. A majority of these awards are through the Southeast Journalism Conference, a collegiate conference with over 40 member colleges.
Here is a look at some of my awards with the Southeast Journalism Conference and what work I entered into the competitions to receive them.
About Best of the South
The Best of the South awards are an annual series of awards given out by the Southeast Journalism Conference. Students from over 40 member colleges submit their best work of the year in hopes of receiving one of these prestigious awards.
Students are judged on up to three entries based on the category they are competing in. For example, a student entering for Best Photographer would be judged on up to three photographs published, and a student would be judged on up to three published articles if they enter into Best News Writer.
Writing and Reporting Awards
Best Arts and Entertainment Writer
5th place | Feb 2025
In 2025, I received the Best of the South: Best Arts and Entertainment Writer Award from the Southeast Journalism Conference. I ranked fifth place among fellow students, and received a certificate for my work.
This award was recieved based on the submission of three enteries pertaining to arts and entertainment beat reporting, including theatrical productions, movies and television shows.

1st place | Feb 2023
In 2023, I received the Best of the South: Best Arts and Entertainment Writer Award from the Southeast Journalism Conference. I ranked first place among fellow students, and received a certificate and medal for my work.
This award was received based on the submission of three entries pertaining to arts and entertainment beat reporting, including articles on feature-length and short films.

Best Newspaper Designer
3rd place | Feb 2024
In 2024, I received the "Best Newspaper Designer" Award for my work in the Tropolitan, Troy University's student newspaper. I ranked third place among fellow students, and received a certificate for my work.
This award was recieved based on the submission of proofs of three issues of the Tropolitan's arts and entertainment section, Trojan Living, of which I was the editor and page designer for.

Alongside my fifth place award for Best Arts and Entertainment Writer, my work with the Tropolitan was also recognized as the newsroom won Best Newspaper in the same conferece.
While this award is the result of my work in the newsroom, it is also the collaborative effort of all editors and advisors that make up the leadership of this organization.
